03/02/2006 - New development in spiral jet milling

Spiral jet mills are sometimes considered as being all the same (externally) despite their enormous differences (internally).

They look similar yes, but why a spiral jet mill consumes 50%, sometimes 30% of the process gas consumed by other jet mills of the same size ?

Internal volumes, geometries and dimensions can lead to different results.

Not only the nozzle and injector diameters are important, because the primary target is not a low consumption, but a high productivity with a tight PSD.

FPS has dedicated a lot of efforts in 2003 to bring a small revolution to the internal design of its spiral jet mills.

In its short history FPS has shown to customers very high productivities, tight PSDs and the lowest process gas consumptions.

A powder that used to cake after few minutes in an old generation jetmill, despite utilising PTFE components, could be micronised in FPS jetmill without caking at the same pressure and same feed rate. On top of this with stainless steel components and obtaining a much finer PSD.

FPS is glad to share its knowledge with the industry and welcomes enquiries from all over the world.
