Vertical Laminar Air Flow units are used when a class ISO5 as per EN 14644-1 (Class 100 as per Fed. Std. 209 E) is requested to protect a process/equipment, typically installed for the protection of filling, transfer, packaging operation with product sensitive to contamination. A downward air flow with average speed of 0,45 m/s is generated with a dedicated fan and convoyed towards the area to be protected. Attention has to be given to prevent turbulences from occurring in the protected area. PVC strip curtains or fixed lateral panel may be adopted. Horizontal laminar flow booths are typically installed where operator/environment protection is required (dust reduction within the operation area – OEB 2-3), i.e. for discharge stations, drum to equipment powder transfer and other.
Down-Cross units are installed when the protection of product, operator and environment has to be achieved. The working area is interested by a vertical air flow in order to obtain a classified environment up to Class ISO 5 dragging the dispersed particles and/or vapors toward the lower zone equipped with a two-stage pre-filter section.
